Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City
Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City will be world record-breaking in several ways. Grab on to your seat belts ladies and gentleman, this is going to be a ride like no other!
FASTEST: Top speed of 50.3 miles per hour!
STEEPEST: A 10-story, 90-degree vertical drop. Straight down! Custom-engineered to have an immediate out-of-the-station, gravity-driven drop down an Ozarks mountainside.
TALLEST: Custom-designed for mountainous terrain with its tallest point at 100 feet!
Not only that, Time Traveler will be the FIRST AND ONLY SPINNING COASTER in world with 3 INVERSIONS. Plus, it will be the FIRST AND ONLY with a VERTICAL LOOP! Let’s see how dizzy we get breaking down inversions and loops.
DOUBLE LAUNCH: First. go from 0 to 47 mph in 3 seconds when you launch out of the gate. Second, go 30 to 45 mph in 3.5 seconds.
DIVE LOOP: Inversion where the track twists upwards and to the side and then dives toward the ground in a half-vertical loop.
VERTICAL LOOP: The vertical loop is the most basic of roller coaster inversions, however this is a 95-foot tall loop! Named for its continuous upward-sloping section of track that eventually results in a complete 360 degree circle. At the top-most piece of the loop, riders are completely inverted. Typically, these loops are not actually “circles” but more of a teardrop shape, with the top of the loop being a tighter arc. This shape makes the loop more comfortable for riders than a true circle shape.
ZERO-G ROLL: A zero-gravity roll or zero-g roll is an inversion where the track twists 360 degrees as it rises and falls in elevation, usually at the crest of a hill. The element gets its name from the weightless effect of zero g-force that a rider experiences during the inversion.
“This coaster’s state-of-the-art controlled spin feature provides riders a unique thrill experience while still appealing to families,” said Brad Thomas, President of Silver Dollar City Attractions. “Since Silver Dollar City’s opening day in 1960, guests have taken a journey back in time with unique and world-class experiences. We strive daily to continue that tradition through our rides, our festivals, our crafts and our food. That pursuit continues in 2018 with Time Traveler – a Revolutionary Coaster Ahead of Our Time.”
Now that you know what the Time Traveler ride is going to feel like, let’s talk about the story behind this roller coaster. Living in Silver Dollar is Charlie Henry, his wife Anna, and only daughter Emmaline. Charlie is a scientist, inventor, and clock-maker by trade, with a passion for reading Jules Verne. Verne is the author of tales like 2000 Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in 80 Days. Charlie’s love for these stories helps him be the dreamer and doer that he is. Enthralled with the idea of speed, time, and flight, Charlie is determined to build a machine that defies time. Will it? We’ll have to wait until 2018 to find out!
Silver Dollar City is no stranger to world records, with Outlaw Run earning the title of “Best New Ride” in 2013 when it debuted. Time Traveler is a $26 million investment for Silver Dollar City and their biggest attraction EVER.
Many coaster enthusiasts have pointed out the paradox of an 1880s-inspired theme park developing a track record for revolutionizing roller coasters: Time Traveler follows the daring wood coaster Outlaw Run, which after its debut in 2013, made it into the Guinness Book of World Records and earned the coveted title of the industry’s “Best New Ride” that year. “Today, several years later, Outlaw Run still carries high prestige globally, and now Time Traveler will build upon that record-breaking tradition,” said Thomas.
