If you have preschoolers at home then you need to know about Peg + Cat so you are hip to the word on the street. Coming to NET on October 7th, Peg + Cat bring you along on two adventurous math journeys everyday of the week!
“Peg + Cat is new animated preschool series that follows the adorable, spirited Peg and her sidekick Cat as they embark on adventures and learn foundational math concepts and skills. Co-creators Billy Aronson (Rent, Postcards from Buster) and Jennifer Oxley (Little Bill, The Wonder Pets!) have teamed with The Fred Rogers Company to bring young viewers a new way to experience math through Peg and Cat’s relatable, and often hilarious, adventures. Every half-hour episode of PEG + CAT will feature two stories, each an eleven-minute adventure in which Peg and Cat find themselves thrust into an unexpected math word problem. Peg and Cat’s adventures take them through worlds of infinite possibilities – from farms to purple planets, from 16th-century Verona to New York’s Radio City Music Hall, from a land of pirates to a prehistoric valley – demonstrating that math is everywhere.”
We recently got the chance to watch an episode of Peg + Cat
and I really loved it, right down to the graph paper background. There are lots of math concepts worked into each adventure and I like how they sneak them all in. Triangle pizza slices for shoes, triangle flags, and triangle pyramids. They don’t just flash a big triangle on the screen and say “Triangle”. Peg + Cat actually ties triangle in to the adventure in a variety of different ways so you don’t even know you are learning while having fun!
The colors and animation are soft and inviting for preschoolers. It’s a nice change from all the bold and in your face children’s shows that we come across nowadays. The interaction and flow of the episodes reminds a little of Charlie Brown with a modern twist.
I can’t wait to see what other math based adventures Peg + Cat
go on! Tune into the Peg + Cat premiere on Monday, October 7th at 10AM. The show will air Monday through Friday at 10AM and 1PM, as well as on Sunday’s at 8AM.
