A few weeks ago my oldest daughter and I spent the weekend in Grinnell, Iowa. I’ll be telling you all about very soon and giving you lots of reasons to get into Grinnell for your next getaway. Today, I wanted to tell you all about where to stay in Grinnell and that’s Hotel Grinnell!
(We were provided with a complimentary stay. Any opinions are 100% our own.)
Hotel Grinnell: Old School Turned Awesome Hotel
Inside an old school building constructed in 1921 is Hotel Grinnell. Throughout the halls and inside the 43 rooms you’ll spot nods to the history like “Hall Passes” for room keys as well as school themed rooms with gym floors and chalkboards.
The Rooms at Hotel Grinnell
My daughter instantly jumped onto the bed at Hotel Grinnell and wanted to take it home with her. Very comfy offering a great night sleep. The rooms at Hotel Grinnell are Clean and modern with plenty of space to relax and watch TV or get some work done.
Amenities in the room include flat screen TVs, mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker, toiletries, and a “mini basket” you can purchase snacks and other items from.
The bathrooms featured walk-in showers with ceiling shower heads. Another favorite of my daughter’s and she made sure to take a shower at least once a day while we were there so she could enjoy it.
Hotel Grinnell features a restaurant on property. Sticking with the school theme, The Periodic Table offers both food and drinks for dinner, as well as a complimentary breakfast for hotel guests.
The breakfast was hot and delicious both mornings we ate there and I’m going to have to recreate the egg concoction soon because it was SO good! In addition to the egg item, they offered pastries, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, milk, juices, and coffee.
We also stopped back at Hotel Grinnell to enjoy open mic night on the patio. They have a great outdoor space with plenty of places to sit as well as two sets of cornhole to play. After relaxing on the patio we headed inside for dinner and games.
One half of The Periodic Table is a game room so we hung and played after dinner. You’ll find Scrabble hanging on the wall, shuffleboard, several choices of board games, and a chalkboard for hangman, drawing, or even tic-tac-toe.
The menu at The Periodic Table isn’t one you’d expect at hotels. This urban eatery pours signature cocktails and local craft beers while serving up specialty shared plates that will create a taste bud party in your mouth. We dined on Japanese Noodles and Tacos de Carne Asada. Both were equally delicious and tasted very fresh!
Hotel Grinnell is located in the perfect spot to experience the city. We walked through the park, to the shopping district, and even to dinner. There are bikes for hotel guests to use if you’d rather do that instead of walking or driving. Plenty of parks and trails in the area that make for gorgeous bike rides during spring, summer, and fall.
Plan a weekend getaway to one of the Top Ten Coolest Small Towns in America and experience the old school turned awesome hotel for yourself when you stay at Hotel Grinnell! It’s not just a place to sleep, Hotel Grinnell is an experience from check-in to check-out and one of the most fun hotels I’ve stayed at!
Really interesting hotel for a small town. Great review and pics!
