My Family and Me:
I like to say that we are a family business! My husband, Scott Porter, is the owner of Kainesville Builders, specializing in residential new construction. Between the two of us, we put our three kids to “work”, often taking them along to post Real Estate signage and get their opinion(s) on kid-friendly details in our jobs.
I was born and raised in Council Bluffs and attended University of Iowa & Creighton, studying Organizational Communication. I am a previous member of Downtown Neighborhood Association & Jaycees, a Board Member of Lincoln Fairview Neighborhood Association, a Board Member/VP of High Voltage Youth Wrestling Club & heavily involved with my children’s schools, activities and various other community events. I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
What made you want to go into Real Estate?
In high school I cleaned rentals for a local realtor, which her business of rentals and staging always intrigued me. I’ve always loved looking at homes while on vacation. Attention to detail such as windows, finish work, architecture always catch my eye. I’m able to see the bigger picture…the potential in homes rather than the paint color or flooring.
Do you have a Dream Home in the Council Bluffs area?
I am a historical house lover….so there are many I would love to live in or purchase & restore! I love the homes on Oakland Avenue, Forest Drive and homes near the Dodge House. Again, the character, attention to detail, craftsmanship –they don’t build them like they used to.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
East Coast (Boston area) – I love the history! Brick streets, historic homes, our nations history, food, culture and the number of colleges. So many of my passions are on the East Coast.
What is one thing you wish Council Bluffs had?
I wish we had an indoor sports complex. Our youth has to travel 30+ minutes to facilities for indoor use. I think Council Bluffs and the surrounding Iowa communities could fully support an indoor youth sports complex.
Is there a “best season to sell” in the Council Bluffs area?
The season to sell in Council Bluffs is NOW! The inventory is low and there are ready & able buyers.
What is one tip you can offer to people staging their homes for sale this year?
De-clutter and de-personalize are always my 2 recommendations.
