Railroad Days is rolling into town on July 13th and 14th. This year we’re celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the first national transcontinental railroad. All kinds of fun Council Bluffs Railroad Days Activities happening to celebrate this special occasion, which represents Mile Zero!
“The Union Pacific Museum is excited to represent Mile Zero of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad and be a part of this community-wide celebration of railroad heritage,” Patricia LaBounty, curator of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum said. “There are so many great activities and events both during and around Railroad Days this year, it is a not to miss weekend!”

Railroad Days Activities to Celebrate Mile Zero
PACE Movie Night in the Park
Where: Bayliss Park
When: July 12th at Dusk
In celebration of Railroad Days, PACE will be showing North by Northwest on the big screen in the park. This Alfred Hitchcock follows a New York City advertising executive who goes on the run and boards a train to Chicago, after being mistaken for a government agent by foreign spies.
Mile Zero Celebration
Where: Bayliss Park
When: July 13th from 10am-4pm
The 712 Initiative will host a family-friendly Mile Zero celebration in Bayliss Park featuring train rides, kids activities, interactive demonstrations, food trucks, and more. You’ll also be able to enjoy live music from Civil War Brass Band, The Matt Cox Band, and a headliner that will be announced closer to the event. Plus, keep your eyes out for new railroad-themed art popping up along the crosswalks on each corner of Bayliss park thanks to Pottawattamie Arts, Culture and Entertainment.
Drinkin’ with Lincoln
Where: 100 Block
When: July 13th from 6pm-10pm
The 100 Block will be hosting a “Drinkin’ with Lincoln” pub crawl featuring fun Lincoln-era challenges at participating locations. The first 100 participants will score Abraham Lincoln styled hats and beards and there will also be a beard contest during the crawl. Historic 100 Block Trolley Hospitality Stop
When: July 13th and 14th
A fourth stop has been added to the Council Bluffs trolley loop! Stops include the Union Pacific Railroad Museum, RailsWest Railroad Museum, Historic General Dodge House, and The 100 Block. At these stops, visitors will find additional access to area restaurants and amenities during both days of the event.
“The 100 Block businesses are excited to be included as a stop on the Railroad Days route,” Donna Schoeppner, 100 Block event coordinator, said. “It will be a great opportunity for participants to take a break and grab a bite and a drink. Then they will be refreshed to complete their journey to all the other exciting stops.”
Railroad Days will run from July 13th and 14th from 9am-5pm, unless specified times
for special events are listed. Passes for Railroad Days run $15 for a family pass (2 adults + dependent children) and $5 passes are available for an additional adult with the purchase of a family pass. Family Passes include admission to and bus/trolley transportation between all Railroad Days locations.
