Do you ever want to escape and disconnect from it all? Last weekend my son and I did just that when we hit the highway for a getaway at Honey Creek Resort. If you haven’t taken this 3.5 hour drive from Council Bluffs, you are missing out an a beautiful location with tons to do! Here are 9 Reasons to visit Honey Creek Resort in Iowa, and relax with nature!
9 Reasons to Visit Honey Creek Resort
Sitting on Lake Rathbun, the second largest lake in Iowa, there is no shortage of beautiful scenery at Honey Creek Resort. Both the lodge and the cottages had fantastic views – we even spotted deer running through the parking lot and the golf course.
There are all sorts of things to do at Honey Creek Resort, both scheduled and unscheduled. Take in some golfing, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, hiking, s’mores around the campfire, or one of the many classes offered though naturists like making bees wax lip balm, star gazing, crafts, and more.
While at Honey Creek Resort my son tried eight new foods. I can’t tell you the last time he actually tried anything new so this was HUGE. Even huger, he LOVED it all. Things like taquitos, turkey subs, molten chocolate cake, waffles for breakfast BOTH mornings, chicken, and the list goes on. He kept telling everyone how amazing the food was and I will admit, it hurt my ego just a wee bit.
There are 105 guest rooms at the Honey Creek Resort Lodge, but I highly recommend staying in one of the 28 cottages at the resort. My son and I were wowed as soon as we pulled in and he stated many times that he didn’t want to go home because the “cabbage” was better than home!
#5 Indoor Water Park
There isn’t just a pool and hot tub at Honey Creek Resort. They have Buccaneer Bay Indoor Water Park with a slide, lazy river, water basketball, little kids section, and a small arcade to enjoy before or after you swim.
#6 Playground and Outdoor Event Space
One of the first things you spot when you pull onto Honey Creek Resort is a playground and outdoor event space that is perfect for weddings, work picnics, and family reunions. The playground has places to play for big and little kids, and this is a park with some neat features I haven’t seen at parks at home.
#7 Nature Trails
After settling into our cottage, we hit one of the nature trails that lead back up to the lodge. There are a few different routes you can go that take you through the beautiful nature surrounding Honey Creek Resort, and we also spotted a pond, bee hives, and a few guests who rented bicycles to enjoy the trails.
#8 Friendly Staff
Every staff member that we encountered at Honey Creek Resort was happy, friendly, and helpful. We had no issues during our stay, but they were always able to point is in the direction we were searching for our had answers to our questions.
#9 Disconnect to Reconnect
It felt so good to disconnect from the busyness of life and reconnect with my son during our getaway. Yes, Honey Creek Resort offers WiFi that works great, but there was SO much to do at the resort that you don’t even think about getting online, other than to share awesome pictures of your adventures.
There is something for everyone of any age at Honey Creek Resort, and the only negative is that I waited this long to head out there! Whether you are looking for a little getaway or searching for a beautiful location in Iowa to hold your event, head to Moravia, Iowa and see what Honey Creek Resort is all about!
